Upgrading from any former WCF beta release to RC1 on a 2003 Server machine will result in a IIS Metabase corruption, if you’ll try to access the service by IE or Mozilla, IIS will send you the plain text of the .svc file. Microsoft released a fix tool for this named CleanIISScriptMaps, but on my 2003 OS it didn’t work at all. So here are the steps I’ve done in order to fix this:

1. Uninstall .NET Framework 3.0
2. Uninstall IIS 6.0
3. Restart the server
4. Install IIS 6.0
5. Register ASP.NET 2.0 in IIS (aspnet_regiis -i)
6. Install .NET Framework 3.0

Done, happy WCF coding 🙂
